How to Get to the First Date (Without Losing Your Mind)

They say dating is a numbers game, and if you’re single, dating apps are still the most efficient way to meet people. But let’s be real - it can be a slog. Our goal today? Get to the date as fast as possible without having a nervous breakdown and swearing off dating for the 5th time. Let me show you how:

Swiping Strategy: The Gut Check

Some of my friends swear by the "suicide swipe" (swiping right on everyone). It's a bold move and I don’t recommend it, but they are on to something. My advice - trust your gut. Don’t overanalyze profiles. If they seem cute and interesting, swipe right. It's about casting a wide but thoughtful net.

Starting the Chat: Just Say Something

No one ever remembers how the conversation starts. If it’s meant to be, the banter will flow naturally. So my advice here is to check your ego and send the first message as soon as possible. I have a friend who literally says “Hey, you’re super cute”. 0 creativity points but it works.

Setting Up the Date: No Penpals Allowed

Once the banter’s flowing and the vibe is good, it's time to move things forward. Find out what neighborhood they live in and find a chic hotel lobby bar nearby. Hotel bars are classy, low-pressure, and perfect for a first date.

Making the Date Successful: The Escape Plan

Always have a cancellable activity lined up for 2 hours after the date. Adding a time constraint takes the pressure off, and you can always cancel if things are going well. As for conversation topics - we have that covered. We built a Q&A game in the Lox Club app called Josie’s game for first dates. Just shake your phone on the home screen to start playing. My advice - choose the TMI category.

Remember - dating apps are just a means to an end—keep it light, have fun, and get to that first date without overthinking it.
